‘Devara: Part One’ Shatters Records, Surpassing Rs 300 Crore Worldwide in its First Week

Jr NTR’s much-awaited film Devara: Part One has seen tremendous box office success, partly because it fell on a Gandhi Jayanti holiday on its first Wednesday. Koratala Siva’s action-packed saga with Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor crossed Rs 300 crore gross collections worldwide and Rs 200 crore nett in India within six days.

The multi-lingual movie, which was simultaneously released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada on September 27, saw its collections take a huge leap threefold on October 2-when it coincided with the national holiday. On the sixth day of its release, Devara added Rs 30.27 crore to its kitty across the globe and has taken its overall collection to an impressive Rs 353.24 crore. Trade analysts, including Manobala Vijayabalan, say the movie is doing well and now Devara is looking for a lifetime business like another blockbuster, Vikram, which grossed Rs 414.43 crore worldwide in 13 weeks.

In the domestic arena, the movie’s collection has crossed Rs 207.85 crore in six days. The film that opened with Rs 82.5 crore on its first Friday sustained good numbers all through the week. The day-wise nett collections in India reflected consistent performance, with Rs 38.2 crore on Saturday and Rs 39.9 crore on Sunday, dipping over the weekend to Rs 12.75 crore on Monday. It bounced back on Wednesday at Rs 20.5 crore in the holiday surge.

The Hindi version also promised a good run as it collected Rs 7.95 crore on its opening day and continued to perform well over the week. By the first Wednesday, the Hindi version had accumulated Rs 45.87 crore, with projections suggesting it will cross Rs 50 crore before the second weekend.

According to film analysts, including Taran Adarsh, this is superb success attributed to both the quality of the film and the timing of its release. Being a national holiday on Gandhi Jayanti, the film saw the perfect platform to capitalize on broad audience support and witnessed a major rise in box office numbers. Analysts predict that there might be a slight dip on Thursday, but they expect Devara to pick up momentum again over the weekend.

Jr NTR’s second film to gross more than Rs 300 crore worldwide, Devara: Part One is this yet again, though this happens to be the first solo launch from his platter that scales this level of success. Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan make their entry into the Telugu cinema with this film as well. Along with them, it boasts of a star-studded cast alongside Prakash Raj, Murali Sharma, and Shine Tom Chacko.

Devara, the Jr NTR starrer action drama continues to enjoy its stay at the box office, especially when none of the big heroes are slated to release movies in the coming weekend. The film, that deals with the coastal region backdrop, has Jr NTR play a dual role to rescue his loved ones. However, with no big releases on the weekend, the first-week collections for the movie are expected to be around Rs 255 crore gross and Rs 217-220 crore nett in India.
